Hawkwell 1 - 2 Canvey u14s Reds
This is the first time these 2 teams have met with another 3 more games to play against each other. We started slow but all credit to the boys for upping their game.
A wrongfully called penalty saw Hawkwell take the lead with 5 minutes to go in the first half.
At half-time, the boys looked gutted to have been robbed but we spoke about the decision, rolled our sleeves up, and took control of the game.
We drew back to 1-1 with a superbly taken penalty by Archie because of a handball on the goal line from a corner kick. The boys had their belief back and were like a pack of hungry wolves.
Camped in their half for most of the game, we took a quick throw-in and again Archie broke through with a lovely taken goal.
As soon as we went 2-1 up the boys killed the game, slowed everything down and showed great maturity.
They are through to the final on the 8th May at Hullbridge against the runaway leaders, South Woodham. It’s going to be a very tough game but anything can happen.
Chuffed for the boys today. They have worked so hard this year and still have a chance of 2nd place in the league! So proud of you all.
